Spain goes into Confederations Cup as favorite

At the Confederations Cup Spain carries the weight of overall favorite. Spain travels to South Africa for the June 14-28 test run for next year’s World Cup as FIFA’s top-ranked team thanks to its European championship triumph last summer. Spain hasn’t lost a match since November 2006 — a stretch of 31 games — and is perfect in World Cup qualifying. Expectations are high.

The 2003 French pen champion received a spot in the draw along with 2008 Wimbledon and U. pen junior champion Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria. Tournament organizers on Monday also selected last year’s junior girl’s winner 15-year-old Briton Laura Robson to play in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time.
